How To Kitchener Stitch With Knitting Needles

Insert the needle into the next stitch on the front needle as if to purl, but this time, leave it on the needle. Do not pull the stitch off the needle. Do step 1, then step 3.

If you are knitting with the magic loop technique or flat, you should already be set. The kitchener stitch is used to seamlessly graft live (on your needles) stitches together in knitting. Gently pull the yarn through.

Work these two stitches together as established and drop both stitches. The knitting without the tapestry needle will be in front. Repeat steps 5 through 11 until you get to the last two stitches;

It's often used to close the toes of socks knit from the top down. Insert the needle into the first stitch on the back needle as if to purl, and slip it off the needle. The working yarn should be coming from the first stitch on the needle in the back.

Insert the needle into the first stitch on the front needle as if to knit, while slipping it off the end of the needle. Now, you are ready to start grafting! Note that the working yarn passes under the two left needles, and under the right working needle.
